Hunen
and Munen
These
mythical birds are from Norse myth and represent thought and memory.
They are carved from a solid chunk of black walnut wood and sit
on a base of neo-latine marble.
Odin, the Norse god of gods, is usually depicted as having a bird
perched on each shoulder.
The birds were believed to fly around the world each day, learn
everything there is to learn concerning the goings on in the world,
then return to their perches on Odin's shoulders and whisper all
there was to know into the ears of Odin. This is how Odin knew
everything all of the time.
This piece now resides in a very loving home in Markham, Ontario.
