Cronos
Cronos was the god of time. When I carved this
piece, I did not set out to do Cronos. As a matter of fact, I
did not know what I was going to do. I was suffering from a form
of writer's cramp, but in this case, sculptor's cramp. So, I stared
at the uncarved block of spaulted maple and asked myself, with
chainsaw in hand, how I felt at that moment. I limited myself
to one deep line cut that the saw would make to reflect my feeling.
Once done, I asked, based on that line cut, what form should the
next line cut take?
This is how this sculpture evolved. Hidden in this
piece are the faces Cronos' children, all of which he ate.
